TypeKey

There’s been a whole lot of talk this weekend about TypeKey. You can follow some of it by going here and following all the links. TypeKey is the new service being built into Movable Type 3.0 that will allow you to use a central registration server and only allow comments by folks who have registered with it. I’m not going to spout off an opinion of anything that I haven’t actually seen in use, so I’m not entering the fray, as it were. But what I will say is that I’ll be watching closely. My other blog, that uses MT and the MT-blacklist plug-in to combat comment spam, has been working pretty well as is. Given the subject matter, I think it’s very important for people to be able to comment anonymously on that site. But I also know that the blacklist is blocking about 5 or so spam comments per day, so I need some tool to block those. If Jay really stops updating MT-Blacklist as a result of the TypeKey service being available, I’m not entirely sure what I will do in response. Right now I’m waiting for more details, most specifically about whether or not people would be able to register with TypeKey and still go to that site and post anonymously without anyone seeing any identifying information. Right now, I’m skeptical that is going to be possible. But I’m willing to be proven wrong.
