Since I was already in the "web programming" mood when I got home, what with the ATOM feed on Angela's blog, and since the DNS seems to have caught up with the server move on the child abuse site, I went ahead and upgraded the Movable Type installation over there, and added an atom feed to the list of choices. The whole RSS vs ATOM thing makes no sense to me, as a non-programmer. I just want to be able to subscribe to feeds and read my news in my aggregator! My hope is that with Blogger now defaulting to ATOM that the aggregator programmers will soon be making their tools work with both. If not, I'll have to hit the list of current apps that do work with both and go through the whole process of finding a new one to use. As a producer of a feed I just want to able to let folks read my site any way they want. I wish blogger would allow me to publish both, the way MT does. Maybe someday! (Or maybe someday I'll switch this site to a host that'll support MT!)
Blogger now has the option of publishing in Atom instead of RSS. But, they don't give you the option to produce both an RSS and an ATOM feed, just one or the other. So, unless they do, or unless someone convinces me that ATOM is that much better than RSS, I won't be having an ATOM feed on here. Just plain old RSS. :)
Update: The old blogger pro accounts let you choose between RSS and ATOM, the free accounts only allow ATOM feeds. I tried to create a feed for Angela's blog but since it's an ATOM feed, and my current aggregator doesn't do ATOM yet, I have no idea if it actually works or not! Can anyone verify for me, and save me the trouble of downloading and installing a whole new app just to see if her feed works! Maybe I should get a new title?
Craig was kind enough to send me a couple of articles about the hot job titles to have, "Business Technologist" aka "IT Business Technologist" or "IT Business Analyst"
Hmm, since every time I open my mouth in my office I'm technically communicating with non-IT people about IT, and trying to take their problems and find technical solutions to them, maybe I should look into upgrading my job title. It sounds a whole lot better than IT Specialist!
Yeah I know, I shouldn't complain about IT Specialist, up until a year ago my job title was Database Administrator. IT Specialist is twenty times more accurate than that!
For purposes of telling this story, names have been changed to protect the innocent.
One of the people I work with, Chuck, got fooled into opening a spam email today, because the "sender" name was someone else who works here, Bob. It was a "hi I'd like to go out sometime check out my profile at this site" spam, that I assume sent you to some sort of "adults" site. (This is an office, I wasn't going to investigate THAT closely!) He forwarded the email to me, and to Bob, stating that while he didn't think that Bob was his type, or that he was Bob's type, maybe Bob, or someone who knows Bob, had gotten a virus that had grabbed Bob's email address. Upon further investigation though, the email address was completely unrelated to the name, they just happened to have Bob's name, which makes you wonder about Bob, doesn't it? *L* Digg this | Post to del.icio.us| FaceBook | Stumble Upon| Google Bookmark|

Things to read
I've got invoicing to do this morning, but these things in my aggregator need a further look:
"The worm arrives in an e-mail file attachment with a randomly generated name and EXE extension. E-mail messages containing the worm have the subject "Hi" and a message body that reads: "Test =)" followed by some randomly generated characters and then "Test, yep," said F-Secure Corp. of Helsinki. "
Ice/Sleet/Snow and bitter cold all weekend leaving you pretty much cooped up in the house? Not so excellent!
I have managed to get some things done around the house, do a little blogroll cleaning, played some NHL 2K2, watched both football games yesterday, and just generally relax while Angela's out of town. That was the goal, to get a little relaxation in, to try and shake the grumpy mood that last week left me in. Mission accomplished! Unfortunately she won't be back until tonight, and I'm running out of things to do. (A shower would probably be good though, before she gets home...LOL) Digg this | Post to del.icio.us| FaceBook | Stumble Upon| Google Bookmark|
