You need my passwords???

Tonight when I powered on my desktop PC, I was caught somewhat by surprise by Outlook asking me for my Gmail IMAP password. I fired up Twhirl at the same time and was somewhat surprised that it asked for my Twitter password as well, but I entered it and immediately tweeted to see if anyone else was having Gmail IMAP issues. Before anyone could respond, I got prompted for all my other email passwords as well, so I knew maybe something else was up, and when my Twitter pals responded that Gmail was working fine for them, it clinched it!

Turns out, for whatever reason, Vista stopped remembering my stored passwords. As any good IT guy would, I hit Google next. I found this post on Minty White which seemed similar to my problem, so I followed the suggestion about deleting a registry key, restarted and all was well with my passwords again!

Ah Google, where would we be without you? 😉

Never Assume Searches Are Accurate Without Verifying

Technology, especially M365 technology, changes all the time. It’s vast and complicated, and things get broken when new versions are rolled out. When dealing with eDiscovery, security, privacy, etc., we have to stay on top of those changes to understand new features and ensure the old ones still work the same way.

Don’t assume the old ones will always work the same way. I can tell you from this and plenty of other experiences they often don’t.

  • Good Definition of Twitter

Maybe the best definition of why Twitter is cool, Ambient Intimacy: Ambient intimacy is about being able to keep in touch with people with a level of regularity and intimacy that you wouldn’t usually have access to, because time and space conspire to make it impossible. Flickr lets me see what friends are eating for…
