MS Office Beta Notes

This is a side-blog where I intend to keep all of my notes from Beta testing new versions of Office. This will keep them all in one place for future reference. I started this with Office 2003, and am bringing it back for the 2007 version. This is not an official Microsoft site, this is just the ramblings of one IT guy.

DRM article

Now this article was a surprise. Because when I saw this headline I expected another Anti-MS rant:
Ars Technica: Microsoft's nifty DMCA use: lock out compatibility?

But the conclusions reached in this article are pretty even handed. Yeah MS is trying to get Enterprises to pay out for Office, and Server 2003 and all sorts of MS infrastructure. If they do that they can use the built-in DRM of Office 2003. Are there some places where information needs to be that secure and might find themselves paying for all this? Probably, but I don't think it's many. But it's hardly a conspiracy that a business is trying to tie together all their technology to make money. That's what business does! It's nice that someone in the online media can see that clearly.
