MS Office Beta Notes

This is a side-blog where I intend to keep all of my notes from Beta testing new versions of Office. This will keep them all in one place for future reference. I started this with Office 2003, and am bringing it back for the 2007 version. This is not an official Microsoft site, this is just the ramblings of one IT guy.

Using Word to view RSS?

Interesting article, Turn Word Into a Syndication Client .

Clipboard

I stumbled into the Office clipboard last night, but I don't really know how I did it. The clipboard held 24 objects and sat down in the system tray, when you opened it up it created a sidebar with a list of all the things available to paste into a document. It was pretty cool, now I need to figure out how I got it there again. For the love of documentation! :)

Frontpage 2003

I haven't even gotten around to playing with the beta of Frontpage that came with all my stuff and now I read that it's out of date already. There's a beta 2 coming out with XLST and blogging tools built in. Sounds pretty interesting don't ya' think?

I've had it..

Last night was the final straw. I deleted all of the Hotmail account information from Outlook 2003. I was sick of getting semi-constant "Unable to connect to server" errors, or freezes or crashes. I think every single crash or other problem I've had with Outlook 2003 has been a direct result of trying to do something with Hotmail. Now, maybe I'll get a better idea of how stable Outlook is with plain old POP3 accounts.

XML

Cubicgarden has some initial impressions of InfoPath and Word in regards to how they handle XML. This is written from a far more XML-geek point of view than I could give you, as a non-programmer.

It does, however, show what I first suspected in trying to get Office 2003 working as far as XML goes, it's a nice first effort but still needs some work. Will that work come in the final release version, or a 2.0 release of InfoPath? My guess is it'll come in a later release, but it's just a guess. Until then us non-programmers may have some difficulty when it comes to using the XML features. Of course, we can always hope that the documentation makes it somewhat easier too, right? :)
