MS Office Beta Notes This is a side-blog where I intend to keep all of my notes from Beta testing new versions of Office. This will keep them all in one place for future reference. I started this with Office 2003, and am bringing it back for the 2007 version. This is not an official Microsoft site, this is just the ramblings of one IT guy.

A reader emailed me today. It seems that the Office 2003 launch event he attended ran out of vouchers. They told him to go to this page for information on getting his voucher, but, of course, there's nothing there. I went back to the page that was printed on my voucer where you could enter the voucher number and get signed up and found an email address for him to try and contact. Anyone else have any ideas, or been in this situation and had it resolved? Tuesday, October 28, 2003
InfoWorld: Office 2003's InfoPath is a winner, but OneNote is subjective More grist for the mill. I will admit, I mostly agree with this synopsis. InfoPath, used in the right setting (not my workplace, it's too small) has the ability to do a bunch of really impressive things. OneNote has similar potential on a TabletPC but I'm not convinced yet of it's place on laptops. That's why I loaded it where I did. :) 120 Day Eval Since the free, full version they promised me won't be forthcoming until close to the end of the year, I went ahead and installed the evaluation copies of Office Professional and OneNote on my laptop last night. It went pretty smoothly, the only hitch was that my Windows 2000 laptop, apparently, didn't have the Windows Installer version 2.0, which is required to install Office 2003. After I located that and installed it, the install took only about 15 minutes for both. The reasoning behind this move to the laptop is simple. I want to see how much, and in what ways, I use OneNote on a laptop. I never had much reason on the home desktop to use it, we'll see how trying it out on the laptop goes. The one thing I do miss from Office 2000 on the laptop though, is the shortcut bar! On a laptop, when I'm using the touchpad, I liked having one-click access to most of the commonly used programs. Now I'll have to find some sort of thrid-party tool to pop over there at the side of the desktop. Shouldn't be too hard, right? :) Monday, October 27, 2003
Outlook 2003 plug Saw this little mini-review/plug for Outlook 2003 over at Pocket PC Thoughts this morning. I agree with what they've said here, although I think the real impetus to move to Office 2003 in the enterprise is going to be OneNote and InfoPath, but for the other versions, Outlook is definitely the biggest improvement.
