MS Office Beta Notes This is a side-blog where I intend to keep all of my notes from Beta testing new versions of Office. This will keep them all in one place for future reference. I started this with Office 2003, and am bringing it back for the 2007 version. This is not an official Microsoft site, this is just the ramblings of one IT guy.

Reader needs help From an email: My full version has arrived; however, installation is not possible because the Beta version cannot be removed. The messge is that "This patch package could not be opened: Windows Installer patch package." Any suggestions on where to find the appropriate information? My first thought was that back when I installed the trial version on my 2000 laptop, I needed to get the latest version of Windows Installer, sounds from his error that this may be something similar. Free version Charlie left me a comment earlier today and I have verified it by installing the free version of Office 2003 Professional tonight. It does seem that the Pro version that you get is a Home-User EULA and does not allow for the product to be installed on both a desktop and laptop with the purchase of only one license. The OneNote version that comes along with it does, so it's not like it's just an oversight in the language. So, technically, it's not really the full version I would have expected. My question is, do the retail versions say the same thing? If this is par for the course in 2003 then I guess it's a much a full version as anything else is, if not, there was some dishonesty about it. Still, it's free, so it's hard to complain too much. :) It's here Finally, my free full version of Office 2003 Professional and OneNote have arrived in the mail. They were there waiting for me when I got home last night, so I haven't had a chance to install just yet, but it's nice to have them. I guess now I can officially stop being skeptical about Microsoft's promise to give them away for attending the launch event. :) Monday, December 08, 2003
