Anniversaries

Yesterday was a big anniversary. I’m sure you’ve heard all about it. It was also a personal anniversary, and while it wasn’t exactly on par with the Wright Brothers in terms of changing the world, it was an important event for me. Yesterday marked 6 years that I’ve been working for this organization. In the midst of personal issues at that time that I’ve documented over there, I started working here. It wasn’t an IT job at the time, it was an office/clerk type job, but I showed some mad PC skills, and was in the right place at the right time when the IT guy left 6 months later, so it wound up being a huge career change for me. It also wound up being the place I would meet my wife, so I guess I can’t complain. I’ve gotten some real-world IT experience and a fabulous marriage out of the deal. That ain’t half bad, is it? 🙂

That being said, I’d still like to move on to something else. I’ve been feeling for quite some time that I’ve gotten everything out of this that I’m going to, and it’s time for some new challenges. There’s a lot to be said for people who stay in the same job for a long time. They are some of the most knowledgeable people I’ve ever met, and they are rock solid dependable. There’s also a lot to be said for not getting stale and stagnant. I’m feeling stale and stagnant. It’s time…

Now if the tech job market would just cooperate!
