Gmail

Rick Klau has some interesting comments about Gmail. I do think this is just the beginning for where Google is headed with this. I envision big things. I didn’t sign up for an account for a long time, even though as a Blogger user I was eligible, because personally I still like living in Outlook (and OneNote as I talked about below). Having email, calendar items, contacts and RSS feeds on my laptop all feed into Outlook makes it available to me even when I do not have an internet connection. That’s a big deal to me.

That being said, when I realized that some people were being given the chance to invite others, I signed up. Unfortunately I was not, at that time, given the opportunity to invite anyone so I sort of ignored the whole process until this week, when I realized they were giving new chances to invite folks and then I discovered that I do have 3 invites! I also saw this post over at Wil Wheaton’s and my immediate reaction was, “I’m in!”.

So, here’s the deal. If you, or someone you know is currently serving overseas in the military and could use the Gig of space to store pictures, emails, etc. from their family, drop me a line and tell me about them at “gmailinvite” at this particular domain and we’ll try and get them set up. If I found out you lied just to get an invite from me, well, there won’t be much I can do to you, but everyone here will know about it. 🙂

Yes, it does seem like this sort of thing just happens once every six month or so, but we have a nice little perfect storm brewing up here in the office. One of our staff of 23 had a baby yesterday. Yeah for her! She’ll be on maternity leave, we may be getting a temp…

I did manage to follow what seemed like a billion links and come up with a couple of sites to blogroll over at the Child Abuse Blog. Last night, as I was surfing around online, suddenly my internet connection went kaput. As usual when that happens I swung around to look at the various pieces of equipment in our office to see which one had orange lights, or was missing some lights. Modem looked ok, Hawking router looked ok, swung around to…

The other thing I need to figure out is about using Outlook to forward email. We don’t have an Exchange Server so I can’t just forward it at the server level, I have to leave my PC running with Outlook open. (Locking down the PC, naturally) Then I use Rules to simply forward all the…

  • Scoble, RSS and fair use..

Scoble has stopped his experimental blog. As he says, he’s reached a point where some folks think he’s “stealing their content” by reposting it to an aggregated blog. It’s an interesting idea, but I think they’re wrong, although I’m not a lawyer and I certainly think he’s probably wise to shut it down until he…
