Movable Type upgrade

Yes I did, finally, upgrade the Child Abuse blog to MT 3.11. I listed the reasons why over on that site, so I won’t get into all the details of comment spam again over here. The upgrade was pretty painless, and the upgrade of MT-Blacklist wasn’t too bad either. Both allow for a lot more flexibility, which I like. What I don’t like is how absolutely horrible the MT admin pages look in Firefox! The site itself looks fine but logging into the MT install brings me to a page that is really hard to navigate. Is that common or have I fudged something up?

(Update 10/7 -This morning the admin pages look fine in Firefox, go figure!)

BTW is it ironic that the spellcheck extension I got for Firefox, doesn’t recognize Firefox as a word? 🙂

So I got here this morning, and our internet connection was still down. The nice folks at the phone company did get it working just before 9AM, approximately 20 hours or so after they did something to cause the problem to begin with. Now everyone can get back to online shopping, online banking, sending personal…

  • Worth Reading – Employment data shows the early signs of AI job disruption are already here

While there may be growth opportunities in blue-collar industries, you don’t suddenly become a plumber or electrician. It’s a long learning process that doesn’t scale well for that many unemployed people. This is reskilling at a massive, rapid scale, but we have to admit that whatever reskilling we’ve done in the past hasn’t been that good.

Do we expect what we’ve done before to ever match current and future needs? I don’t think it will, and that’s a problem that should be addressed. We need different, serious ideas, but I don’t see many of them out there.

  • Update

I’ve gotten an email from the guy hosting the Child Abuse site. The information he has is sketchy at this point, but the server on which the site sits has been shutdown, as part of a defense against a DDoS attack on that subnet. That’s all we know at this point. Hopefully it will be…

  • LeBron Mania

First off, let me just say, I’m really not the world’s biggest basketball fan, it’s no hockey. But I couldn’t help but notice that the “LeBron James era” started last night. Now, keeping in mind that the Cavs are the closest thing we have to a local NBA team, would you be surprised to know…
