We’re in Chattanooga tonight, had stops today at the Lost Sea and the Tennessee Aquarium. We took lots of pictures, but there’s no wi-fi available from our hotel, only dial-up so uploading pics will probably wait until we get home.
After all of the events of last week, it feels good to be away. Now maybe I’ll have time and emotional energy enough to really remember my grandmother the way I want to.

While there may be growth opportunities in blue-collar industries, you don’t suddenly become a plumber or electrician. It’s a long learning process that doesn’t scale well for that many unemployed people. This is reskilling at a massive, rapid scale, but we have to admit that whatever reskilling we’ve done in the past hasn’t been that good.
Do we expect what we’ve done before to ever match current and future needs? I don’t think it will, and that’s a problem that should be addressed. We need different, serious ideas, but I don’t see many of them out there.
Sundays are good, after being up until 3AM learning and playing with some Visual Basic stuff, my wife brought me some breakfast in bad around 10, and then let me go back to sleep for a little while. Excellent! Eventually we did make it out of the house for a trip down to the used…
