Master-Blaster

You know they shouldn’t give very bad worms names that make me think of Mad Max-Beyond Thunderdome. It sort of ruins the seriousness of it, doesn’t it?

(And yes that movie reference probably ages me more than I care to admit!)

That being said, I’ve seen no evidence of it in our office, which is as it should be, since our pseudo-ISP should be blocking all that traffic at the firewall. At least they said they would, which is what I had to resort to checking on when I realized that some of our desktop OS versions are unsupported and don’t have a patch available. Of course that’s irrelevant to most things because they do sit behind a corporate firewall, and as long as that’s configured correctly they should be alright for now.

Ah the hazards of working for not-for-profits and their cheap IT infrastructure! 🙂

Not a busy weekend, actually kind of relaxing, but I did manage to get some techie stuff done: A few pictures added to the Deep South Gallery from Alexandria last week. Obviously, since we weren’t there on vacation, picture taking was low on the priority list. Rather than try and make a gallery out of…

Got an email yesterday asking me to think about linking to another blog. This one was actually respectful, nice, personalized, and gave me the impression that at the very least this person read my blog a little bit before asking. That’s always good. My immediate response was still no, but with some caveats. Now that…

Matthew from the company that makes Mailwasher sent me an email to let me know about their new product, an IE toolbar called Sitehound: The SiteHound toolbar is your first line of defense against internet threats including phishing, scams, spyware, adware, security risks and viruses from rogue websites. SiteHound is free to use, or you…

  • Recycling

I spent part of Saturday morning taking some of our old equipment to the local county solid waste authority’s computer recycling drive. They do a couple of these a year, and it’s a good way to get rid of monitors, printers and other hardware that simply doesn’t work any more or doesn’t serve a purpose…
