Palm question

So Angela’s parents were staying with us this weekend, and her dad brought his Palm with him. Now, ordinarily he uses this to sync notes and other things and he hasn’t, in the short time he’s had this one, made any attempts to use the built-in wireless. Since we have wireless running around the house, we thought it would be a good opportunity to show him how to use it. Only one problem, that took some time to figure out, the Palm’s default settings are to use a VPN connection. The only way to get it to connect to our wifi network was to go through a number of option screens until I finally found the option to disable VPN. What’s up with that? Is that a default Palm setting or something specific to this manufacturer? And why is it a default? Just the curious ramblings of a non-Palm user..

Angela’s got some pictures up from our foray last weekend here. I have a bunch of pics that I took from there but I’m looking to create a giant “around Columbus” album from these, pics from the zoo, pics of downtown, and a few other random images that I’ve taken in the past year or…

Interesting observation about using Help by Jensen Harris today: One of the most interesting epiphanies I’ve had over the last few years seems on the surface like a paradox: “help” in Office is mostly used by experts and enthusiasts. How can this be? I think my biased assumption was that experts know how to use…

  • I knew this would happen

I knew someday that having the one person who works at the company that donates their internet connection to us and understood how it was setup, leave was going to cause problems. Turns out the reason we couldn’t connect to the email server is that they changed the internal IP address of the mail server…

So I installed SP1 for Internet Explorer 6 yesterday and immediately had some problems with it. I don’t know how, or why, but immediately after restarting I opened up IE and what sounded like a mangled .wav file played for about 30 seconds, then stopped. But no other sounds will play because the sound device…
