Lovely forms

I just spent a good chunk of my morning filling out insurance forms, aren’t I lucky? Since we’re probably switching health insurance carriers here at work, everyone got to fill out applications and brief medical histories for the new place. Let’s see I woke up this morning to freezing rain and ice, went through that to get to work and fill out insurance forms, could this day get any better? I doubt it!

Anyway, in other news:

Yes, Geek, you are infamous, at least around here. 🙂 Also, to answer your question, I point to you and support you for a couple of reasons; one I like what you have to say, it’s relevant to what I’m trying to do here, which is educate and entertain people. Second, you’ve done a lot with comments and links and such to support what’s going on here, which gives this place a sense of community that I’m totally looking for, so I like to repay that whenever I can, and lastly it’s nice to be able to say that while I may be a geek, I’m not the Geek. *L*

On a side note, I’m still waiting for the day when someone meets me in person and says “Oh you’re THAT Mike McBride, I read your blog all the time!” Then I’ll feel like I’m infamous as well. 🙂

I added the two new Forum system this morning that I mentioned last night. I’m not sure how this will go, but we’ll throw them out there and see if people want to use them to discuss things. It’s all trial and error at this point!

I’m reimaging a machine this morning. This one proved to be a little tricky as the hosed OS was masking an actual hardware failure. So while I knew I could fix the blue screens with a nice, clean reinstall, I couldn’t even start the reinstall until I identified that the RAM was bad. A quick…

  • Murphy get’s even

Things had been running so smoothly around here lately that I was actually beginning to think that when I do decide it’s time to leave, (probably next year, I get fully vested in the pension at the end of this year) it probably won’t be too big a deal. Then yesterday afternoon happened, and I…

  • Welcome to Iowa!

I did make it safely. A rather uneventful trip to be honest, but I am here, and have already ran into Jim and Gretchen on their way out to Ohana. I decided to grab a pizza and check in with the office. Looks like I didn’t miss much, that’s always good! Here’s an odd observation…

  • Fake MS Worm

We spent the day down at Falls Creek State Park here in Tennessee, pics to come later, I’m sure. On the tech front, someone at work got one of those fake Microsoft emails with the “installer.exe” attached and forwarded it to me. Luckily for me, when he did that I was able to verify that…

  • When change is wrong

Interesting column by Chad Dickerson discussing some of the same things we discussed around here in the last week or so. For example: “One lesson I relearned is that IT is not necessarily about being “right” or even offering the best solution. Quite often, IT is about providing a reliable and mostly invisible service to…
