Holiday Party

We survived my office holiday party last night. As they say back in my old neighborhood, there was no gun play so it was a good party! (No that’s not a trivial matter, there is quite a bit of animosity between various people in my office. *L*)

Seriously though, the food was alright, (although Angela and I were both up in the middle of the night not feeling well, so I don’t think we’ll be hitting that particular place to eat again..) but the setup really didn’t allow you to get around and talk to anyone other than the few people you happened to be sitting right by. (That is a plus and minus, see animosity above..) Of course the fact that the other part of the party was the after-dinner movie and most people rushed out immediately after eating to see LOTR: The Two Towers, made trying to socialize sort of pointless anyway. No we did not take advantage of the LOTR tickets, instead choosing to take our free movie passes and save them for another day. I haven’t even seen the first LOTR and have no real interest in this one either. It’s just not my thing, I don’t do fantasy realms. (Including LOTR, Harry Potter and Star Trek, which cut out three of our movie choices right off the top *L*)

Yeah I know, a computer geek who doesn’t like Star Trek or LOTR. What can I say, I like to be different. 🙂

Looks like I wasn’t the only one trying out Knoppix yesterday. Library Planet had this to say: This goes way beyond DemoLinux. I stuck the CD in, re-booted, and had to hit enter one time to get it started. It identified all the hardware with no user intervention and booted right up. Thanks to a…

Now, keep in mind that I’m not the biggest fan of social software. I don’t really find it all that useful, but I didn’t say anything about Orkut while everyone else was talking about it, because I hadn’t ever actually tried it. Last night Josh was kind enough to send me an invite, so I…

  • Job search spam

Andy’s post today reminded me of a similar experience I had. I submitted a resume in response to an ad on a nationwide job board. Actually a reputable one at that, but obviously they don’t control everyone who posts jobs there. Within minutes of sending the resume in response I got an email, letting me…

I did manage to follow what seemed like a billion links and come up with a couple of sites to blogroll over at the Child Abuse Blog. A couple of breast cancer survivors, a child abuse survivor and another woman overcoming physical disabilities. It’s a good start, but I want more! You’re probably wondering why…
