Important Ubuntu lesson

Remember how I was going to be playing around with that Ubuntu VMware set-up on the VMware player? Well today I discovered that VMWare player will support wireless connections, which I could have sworn I read somewhere that it didn’t. But that’s not the main point I have. Today, after discovering that, I was trying to update to Firefox 1.5, which isn’t available yet in any of the repositories. I got it installed and everything seemed fine, but it would never start.

After much Googling, I came acros this page, and this set of instructions:

Step 1: Use synaptic package manager and get libstdc++5. If you already have it, go to step 2.

Sure enough, that package was not installed on the Ubuntu 5.10 Virtual Machine that you get from the VMPlayer community. Make sure you go get it.

I’m reimaging a machine this morning. This one proved to be a little tricky as the hosed OS was masking an actual hardware failure. So while I knew I could fix the blue screens with a nice, clean reinstall, I couldn’t even start the reinstall until I identified that the RAM was bad. A quick…

Microsoft Upgrades Hotmail I noticed it this morning, and I like it, for the most part. They did get rid of one thing that I used to really like about hotmail though, the stuff at the top of a message (delete, next, previous, move, etc.) used to show up at the bottom of a message…

Granted, I’ve been busy and not paying attention to blogs with all that much detail of late, so I almost missed this post over at Scoble’s, but this part jumped out at me after the discussion from last month. One thing I’ve enjoyed recently is just reading feeds and staying away from the Memetrackers (although,…

  • It’s been a long week

It really has. There’s just been so much going on at work, and outside work with doctor visits (nothing serious, no worries), board meetings, website updates, etc. But now we’re off the Vegas for 5 days of forgetting that I even have a job! I’m taking the laptop though, taking lots of photos, and I…
