Windows Live Writer Update

I saw a couple of days ago that there were some plugins available, linked from the Live Writer site. One of them was a tagging plugin, exactly what I thought this sucker was missing. I grabbed that and the Flickr plugin and then opened up the Writer, only to discover that none of them worked. I did some research and came up with a theory. I needed the .Net Framework version 2, I only had the beta of version 2. So I grabbed that an ran the installer. It errored out on me, demanding that I uninstall the beta version first. Ok, not entirely unexpected, so I start that uninstall, only to be told that I can’t uninstall that, I have software that depends on it.

Quite a conundrum, isn’t it? Luckily, tonight I came across the dotnetfx_cleanup_tool on this post by Aaron Stebner, which seems to have allowed me to get the uninstall done, so that I could load the release 2.0 version and suddenly, those plugins seem to be working. In fact, I’m writing this in the tool right now, and including tags, so we’ll see how it goes!

I think this post pretty much sums out why using on-line apllications makes me nervous, even though I do use quite a few, but I take careful steps to make sure I have backups of everything that’s on-line and don’t share anything with an on-line application that I wouldn’t want you all to know about….

Yeah we’re home again after spending the long weekend visiting the in-laws. We had a good time, spent some time relaxing, watched some college football, did some shopping and ate a lot! • Template changes

I spent part of last night making some template renovations around here, if you actually come to the site to read this, you’ve probably noticed them already. First thing, I took out the blogrolls, except for the list of people I’m actually related to, and replaced them with a link to my subscriptions on Bloglines,…

  • Install, uninstall, configure, rinse, repeat…

Yeah the new Dell is working out pretty well. I’d forgotten how much work is involved in getting a new PC configured properly. I’d also forgotten how much junk gets pre-installed when you buy an OEM PC. I think I’ve uninstalled most of the trial versions of stuff I have no use for, like AOL,…

Hmm, now that I read that last post, the thoughts weren’t random at all. I originally started out thinking they would be, but it didn’t last long, I got off on a tangent that wound up being the whole post. I also meant to talk about the fact that I’ve added a handful of blogs…
