Windows Live Writer Update

I saw a couple of days ago that there were some plugins available, linked from the Live Writer site. One of them was a tagging plugin, exactly what I thought this sucker was missing. I grabbed that and the Flickr plugin and then opened up the Writer, only to discover that none of them worked. I did some research and came up with a theory. I needed the .Net Framework version 2, I only had the beta of version 2. So I grabbed that an ran the installer. It errored out on me, demanding that I uninstall the beta version first. Ok, not entirely unexpected, so I start that uninstall, only to be told that I can’t uninstall that, I have software that depends on it.

Quite a conundrum, isn’t it? Luckily, tonight I came across the dotnetfx_cleanup_tool on this post by Aaron Stebner, which seems to have allowed me to get the uninstall done, so that I could load the release 2.0 version and suddenly, those plugins seem to be working. In fact, I’m writing this in the tool right now, and including tags, so we’ll see how it goes!

I have only used Thunderbird for about two days when I noticed that version 0.4 was available over the weekend. I don’t know whether it’s better, I was still figuring out what was in 0.3 so I don’t really know what’s new, but I downloaded it and replaced the 0.3. Consider this your head’s up…
