Linked – Supercharge Your Networking With Newsletters, Blogs, and Podcasts
If you know me, you know this resonated with me:
Networking is in flux.
How we connect with people is undergoing a major transformation.
The future for networking will be dynamic, inclusive, and deeply integrated with technology.
I started a blog in 2001 for a straightforward reason. I was the only IT person in my job. I discovered the idea of a blog at that time and instantly realized I could write about my experiences, and other folks in similar situations could read what I was doing and start sharing their own knowledge and expertise.
That has never changed.
The internet changed during that time, but the simple truth that whatever technology you want to talk about, blogs, newsletters, social media, etc., could be used to learn from each other hasn’t.
I’m an introvert. I know that isn’t shocking to most people who’ve met me in person at conferences or work when I’ve been more likely than not to skip significant social events. Some people like to network that way. I’m not one of them. I’m also unlikely to walk up to a stranger and introduce myself.
On the other hand, I’ve met some great people who approached me because they read my blog, saw me on a webinar, subscribed to my newsletter, or just enjoyed the LinkedIn discussions I participated in.
That’s the power of sharing your knowledge on the internet.
I haven’t started a podcast, though. That might be a bit too far for this introvert. But I’ve been a guest on a few, and I’m always open to being a guest on yours. Those connections can prove invaluable in the era of mass layoffs. I’m thankful to everyone who reads and shares my words with their network. That’s how the community gets built, and we are all better with a community of smart people around us willing to share their knowledge and connections.
Plus, introverts get to participate without competing with the loudest voices at the bar. The internet can provide that for all of us if we are willing to escape the enshittified social media platforms. It’s still there.
Put something into the world and let that work connect you to the audience who needs to see it. It’s like going to a networking event with the whole world.
