Worth Reading – Artificial Intelligence Can’t Fix the Work Environment

There are a lot of things to consider with how AI can impact your organization, but there are also important things to consider that AI won’t fix.

I recently came across a work trend special report from Microsoft that was talking about the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI). I’m not going to lie, the report is trying to showcase what Microsoft AI tools can do for organizations. But the report mentioned another takeaway that’s worth thinking about – which is organizations shouldn’t expect AI to fix their work environment.

When you read some of the statistics about email, meetings, interruptions, etc., it’s hard not to see the same glaring red flag that Sharlyn sees. We might suck at communicating.

I’m willing to bet that we do. I’m hearing a lot of conversation around it elsewhere, too. For example, the inability to communicate creates a lack of trust in the workplace.

AI will not fix your communication issues. AL will not tell your employees which of the 20 people they invited to a meeting needs to be there, or get your people to send fewer emails at night. It will not magically let an employee know what their manager’s expectations are, and provide feedback when they are misunderstood. Your messed-up environment will still be messed up, it’ll just be obvious faster.

One other thing, if you can specify clear expectations and provide feedback to your employees, good luck talking to an AI LLM. Seriously, it requires clear, precise communication. It’s a skill you should have before you start messing with AI.
