It’s always the obvious stuff

So this morning I came in and got right to doing our invoicing. That involves some complicated database stuff but nothing too difficult, you just have to be careful to do things in the right order and enter the correct dates, stuff like that. You have to really pay attention to every little detail as you go through the billing options and, as I have now learned today, it’s also very important to make sure you load the proper paper into the printer. Otherwise you wind up with somewhere around 50% of the 400 invoices printed on the wrong paper!

Of course, I could blame it on the fact that we have 5 different invoices, that are all remarkably similar, and that sometimes they get mixed up. But the truth of the matter is, I should have paid more attention to what I was picking up to refill the paper tray with.

Yeah, all this tech knowledge and geeky lifestyle and I still wind up reprinting jobs because I had the wrong paper in the printer. I rule! *L*

You may think that last post sounded a bit paranoid, but ask yourself this. • Seemingly random AV thought

Oh, want to know what I learned today? When you remotely install Symantec’s Corporate edition AV product, make sure the user either has Outlook closed when you do it, or restarts Outlook immediately after you do it. The Outlook add-in does some things that make certain features of Outlook go pretty bonkers. Nothing a quick…

  • SP2

I bit the bullet and installed SP2 over lunch today, since I had to work through my lunch hour anyway. (Long story) Everything went well, and nothing really came across as “broken” in any major way. I had to re-enable the Messenger Service, since I do use “net send” across our internal network quite often….

  • Patching catch 22

Prime example last week of why patching is sometimes a whole lot more complicated than it seems to be from the outside. Tuesday was patch day. For many of us in the Eastern Time Zone, who set Automatic Updates to pick up patches overnight, it’s really Wednesday for all intents and purposes. So Weds. would…
