Interesting tidbits

Couple of interesting things I saw over at Chris’ Blog this morning that I think need to be shared. First, the good folks at Lockergnome have started up FileofTheDay.com. That might be something to keep handy when you’re in the mood for some good freeware or shareware.

Secondly, the Barenaked Ladies have a blog. If you’re a fan of the band I’m sure you’ll enjoy reading it, although, like Chris, I’m a tad disappointed that they don’t have a way for fans to leave comments.

  • Attensa

Among the many news items coming out of Gnomedex last week, I saw an announcement of a public preview for a new Outlook-based RSS reader, Attensa. So being ever so curious, I downloaded it this weekend. It’s actually not bad. It supports importing OPML, is pretty customizable, allows you to publish items to your blog…

  • More tech woes

Yesterday was almost an entire day trudging through the world of faulty DNS records, broken telephone cords, unexplained inability to dial outside, which just as suddenly started working again, a lost internet connection that kept me from updating our website database, and various other semi-emergencies. I was so busy putting out fires that when 3PM…

  • How bad is it?

I had another post written up here about work today, but then I realized that some of the information in it hadn’t been made public knowledge yet. While no one I work with reads this blog, outside of my wife, and I don’t give out the name of the place I work, there is still…

  • Security is Happiness

No seriously, I attended an Internet Security Systems demo/seminar this morning and they gave away t-shirts with big smiley faces and “Security is Happiness” printed under them. They’re pretty silly looking, I’ll try and webcam it tonight so you can see what I’m talking about. The seminar was decent, it’s always humorous when you setup…

  • Updates

Random updates on previous posts: The tape drive from Friday turned out to be fine. Had a little scare with static electricity when I went to unplug the drive and plug it back in, but aside from suddenly shutting down our only server with no notice late Friday afternoon, everything was back to normal. The…

  • Out of the Office

It was nice being away from the office for most of today. The Microsoft seminar was semi-interesting. Some demo’s of new software, which was interesting, but nothing that made me want to run out and buy any of them right this minute. There’s some things in Office XP that are nice, but nothing that would…
