Eureka..

I found the source of the spyware, took me awhile to track it but fantasy baseball message boards came to the rescue. I had a feeling that if the problem existed on that site, and I just wasn’t seeing it, that those fantasy baseball folks would be talking about it. Apparently the ads I got were safe, but they had some ads in their rotation that were downloading spyware.

You can read all about it here and here.

Unfortunately I do not know if the offending ads were popups or banner, and neither does anyone else. They do appear to have used an ActiveX hole. Perhaps even one that doesn’t exist on my machine but did on his? Maybe it’s time to force everyone to use Mozilla or Firefox? Yeah, that’ll happen!

This is especially true when you get a group of people talking about going to Gnomedex, because…

  • One of those days

I had hoped the short week due to Thanksgiving would be a relatively quiet one, but today definitely did not fit into that plan. One of our servers crashed early this morning, creating all kinds of havoc around the helpdesk, and the day pretty much went downhill from there. It was one of those days…

  • Blogger changes

Wow, I went to Blogger this evening and caught a glimpse of their changes. They now support individual archives and comments. Pretty cool. And the layout of the site is entirely different. It’ll take some time to get used to, I’m sure, but it’s nice that they’re adding features, if nothing else! I’m not sure…
