Gates and blogging

Reading some of this report about what Bill had to say about blogs, I’d have to say that this is exactly what I’m trying to get people here to understand, but it’s also what I think they’re afraid of!

In a speech to an audience of chief executives, Mr Gates said the regularly updated journals, or blogs, could be a good way for firms to tell customers, staff and partners what they are doing.

When what you do is hard to define, which is true of most associations, blogging about the day to day details makes it easier for people to understand what you do. On the flip side, you have to do something worth talking about for this to mean much. 🙂

I completely agree with what Andy had to say about Firebird being renamed, again, to Firefox and the new release. I actually went through 4-5 posts in my aggregator that talked about Firefox 0.8 being released before I saw Andy’s post and realized that was actually Firebird’s new name! Overheard at Saturday night’s hockey game: “Dude, you’d never catch me in New York or Washington or any place like that, those are just targets for terrorists, it could happen anytime, you never know” 5 minutes later from the same person: “Well they’re just over-reacting to this girl getting killed at the game, I mean…

  • Integrity, the core of IT

Saw this post over at Day in the Life of an Information Security Investigator about integrity. It, obviously, focuses on working the security/consulting side of things, but I think it’s an important part of any good IT professional’s career. To most people within our organization, our word is all they get to hear about technical…
