Recycling

I spent part of Saturday morning taking some of our old equipment to the local county solid waste authority’s computer recycling drive. They do a couple of these a year, and it’s a good way to get rid of monitors, printers and other hardware that simply doesn’t work any more or doesn’t serve a purpose for us. Usually, I load up at the office, drive up, and drop it off, no big deal. But this time there was quite a crowd. I spent about 30 minutes waiting in line to unload my stuff. I guess a whole lot of people got new PC’s for Xmas, eh? 🙂

This article really says it all about virus alerts coming from email gateways. After blocking a flood of Mydoom e-mails, it spams users with alerts that create a general panic. • Supporting everything

Last week I was informed that I’ll be getting a new piece of hardware. Actually, I’ll be getting a second PC, because we’re going to be testing and then partially rolling out a new version of software, and since we will have to support users running both versions for awhile as the roll out moves…

You know what really makes me angry. It’s someone sending me a huge attachment when I only have dialup going and then turning around and discovering that the attachment is their resume, that they obviously were sending to a purchased spammer address list, because this isn’t even a business, let alone one that is advertising…

Phil Ringalda has posted a pair of MT hacks that I’m noting here for my own benefit to read later. The Child Abuse site doesn’t have anywhere near enough traffic to have some of these problems, and well, it doesn’t have more than one blog running either, but you never know what the future will…

  • Must read later

Note to self: Later, read through all the responses to this slashdot thread about what you would include in an IT toolkit. Looks like there are some pretty good tools and ideas running around in there, but I need to do some work and can’t really look at them all right now. (link via nf0)…
