Busted

I see that Andy caught my debut posting over at the 2Guys2Cities blog last night before I even knew Michael had posted it up there!

No, Andy, I was actually on vacation last week. I met Michael Lacy a few months ago and he suggested I do some writing for their site, mostly focused on information for the home user, which is a little bit different from what I do here. They’re going to be revamping the whole site fairly soon, and he wanted to kind of “test the waters” with some of my stuff before the new site launched. Seeing an opportunity to move beyond my normal audience of techies, I volunteered my services. We’ll see how it works out, I’ve already gotten a number of things written, partially written or that I’m thinking about, but I’m open to suggestions on what information should be shared with home users!

Has anybody else using Windows Live Writer to post to their blog noticed occasional slowdowns? Like when it’s autosaving a draft, and you’re typing, the program doesn’t keep up with you, and then fills in behind with what you had been typing once it recovers? For someone like me, who doesn’t type real well, it…

  • Now it’s the laptops

Gee after all those HD failures on the desktops, today it’s a laptop, only in this case it’s not completely gone, it’s just got bad clusters that keep you from doing much work without an application crash, but I was able to rescue data off of it to move over to our spare laptop for…

I’m talking about the latest version of Acrobat Reader, 7.0. As others have already noted, it is quite an improvement over the speed of 6.0. I just installed it this evening and early impression is that it’s quite a bit quicker. Do be careful to uncheck the addon options if you download from Adobe’s site,…

    What I’ve been doing lately..

In addition to tracking down mysteries of not getting virus def updates or Windows Update automatic downloads this week, I’ve also been working on a few other projects. The first thing I wanted to accomplish was using a trial edition of Microsoft’s Virtual PC 2004 to setup an NT Workstation install alongside my XP machine….

  • How does your brain work?

Dave Winer says the brain is hierarchic, while others disagree. I tend to think it’s completely individual. Some people work well with outlines and the way Dave describes it, some don’t. Let’s use his example of finding things in your house. Where are the Q-tips in my house? Right now there in our bathroom, but…

Just noting this here so I can find it later. Tutorial: Streaming Internet Radio on your Pocket PC An interesting idea, no doubt. I’d have to do it while the Axim is plugged into the wall though, as the battery life while using the wireless adapter wouldn’t allow for extended use, but it’s got some…
