Are we still discussing this?

I see the full-feed/partial-feed debate has risen it’s ugly head again. Oh joy, just when I thought I might have missed something while I was toiling in the land of dialup at my in-laws all weekend, and then driving home today.

Nope, same old crap. People with advertising, who are worried about the money they may or may not be making from their sites don’t want to give me full feeds. This, my friends, is why I have no plans to do anything like Google Ad-sense or any of that other junk here. I have this site for my own enjoyment, my own education. I pay for it myself, and if it ever gets to a point where the enjoyment is less than the cost of having it, I’ll stop. This isn’t my job, I already have a job. I already have a side consulting gig temporarily, too. If I tried to make this another job, I’d go insane and my wife would probably kill me, not necessarily in that order. This is fun. Reading blogs is fun. Reading blogs takes up less time when they have full feeds, hence, I am more likely to read a blog that does. If that bothers you, I don’t care. If you feel like I’m stealing your content by reading it without ever seeing your ads, let me know. I’ll be more than happy to quit reading it, and read someone else’s.

  • Blocking popups

I installed the new Google Toolbar yesterday on my work machine. I have made a somewhat half-hearted attempt to use IE a bit more than usual, but not a whole lot more since then, just to see how many popups it blocks. As of 1:30 this afternoon the count is 42. So I wonder, exactly…

  • Power outage

Seems our work ISP is having a power outage at their office, so there may not be much of me on the internet until later. I’m using my laptop and personal dial-up to craft this entry but I can’t use this for much and get work done on my other machines at the same time….

  • Quick Impressions of Evernote Beta

I had about 15 minutes to play around with this today, just long enough to notice that there’s no option to not share certain notes with the mobile version of Evernote. Pretty much, once you decide to sync with the mobile version (Actually, it’s turned on by default), all your data goes up to Evernote’s…

  • Nice dinner

Got a surprise break away from the world of computers this evening. Some very dear friends of ours decided to have a surprise dinner a couple of days early for my birthday. Thank you, Mary and Howard, for a wonderful treat, and thank you, Angela for helping to arrange it. They have just returned from…

  • New host, eventually

Well it’s been almost 4 days now, without a word from That Hosting Company, Inc. Yesterday I decided that enough was enough and took matters into my own hands. The first step was getting control of the domain name. Since the domain registration was part of signing up with THC, they were listed as the…
