A solid OS

I set a new personal record today. Actually, 4 people in out department set new personal records today. We all spent some of the day today working on a laptop, a laptop that was by far the worst case of virus/spyware infection that any of us have ever personally witnessed. Toward the end of the day, when the 4 of us who took turns “cleaning” stuff off this machine were comparing notes on the total chaos that this machine had become, one of our coworkers pointed out that you had to give Microsoft credit. That laptop had over 130 virus and trojan infected files, over 300 identified adware/spyware files, 10-15 “run” entries in the registry and close to 30 junk programs that needed to be removed from Add/Remove programs, and despite all of that crap being on it, when you turned the power on, Windows XP still booted.

I suppose there’s something to be said for that. 😉

You know, there’s a reason your IT people recommend doing things like updating your AV definitions and Windows patches, not downloading any old game you find on-line, looking out for “extras” that come along with downloads, etc. When you do none of those things, this is what you end up with.

I took the big plunge last night. Now that I’ve transferred over all the content from the Geocities site to either this location or the child abuse site, I went ahead and deleted the Geocities site. It is no more, after 6 years of existence and many different permutations. It’s time to move on to…

While we were out running around last night, one of the stops we made was to browse around at Half-Price Books. (One of my favorite places!) As I was walking past the software section I noticed a little sign telling customers that they would be glad to buy and resell various games or children’s software…

I know what I liked most about having the office across the hall from me empty. When you’re focusing on details, say in trying to run accounting reports which are very detail intensive, and the person across the hall is having a meeting in their office, it’s very hard to tune them out. I’ll be…

Well talk about an Easter surprise, I logged in this morning to find an email from Andrew, one of the developers for Newzcrawler. Seems he read my little write up and wanted me to send him some examples of the problem I am having with permalinks so that he could look into providing a fix….

Warning, actual real-life criticism ahead. If you can’t handle it, back away from the computer slowly… OK, first off there’s Chris Pirillo and the flak he’s getting for charging for Gnometomes. I’m of two minds on this one. First, I understand what Chris is doing, he’s trying to bring in some money for Lockergnome while…
