Big Bride?

Seriously, is McBride that uncommon of a name? Sadly, the rest of the dinner experience pretty much matched the inability to get the name. I had never been to a Rainforest Cafe before this, and well, I guess the next time we’re in a town that has one, we’ll know better.

Other than that we had a really great time in San Francisco. I highly recommend taking the evening Alcatraz tour, you get some great views of the bay at sunset and the skyline at night, and when it’s dark, the cell house is just a little spooky. More pictures to come.

Also, you can’t go wrong when you see 15 wireless networks from your hotel room at the corner of Lombard and Van Ness, can you? Most were secured, but not all. Of course, since the hotel had free wifi, I felt no need to pry into those other open networks for bandwidth.

  • Blocking popups

I installed the new Google Toolbar yesterday on my work machine. I have made a somewhat half-hearted attempt to use IE a bit more than usual, but not a whole lot more since then, just to see how many popups it blocks. As of 1:30 this afternoon the count is 42. So I wonder, exactly…

  • So much for getting caught up.

Seems our ISP started filtering email over the weekend for “adult language”. One day in and they’re already blocking legitimate email to us. Heck our freakin’ Webtrends reports were blocked. I hate filters, and this is why. It’ll block way more legitimate email than it will catch “adult” email, and either way, it’s not worth…

First off, the ICQ account is back under my control, thanks to the good people at ICQ for getting that taken care of. That saves me from having to sign up for a new one and making everyone who knows the current one switch. Secondly, I downloaded the new version of Amphetadesk and while it…

  • In the news

After Lockergnome announced their klip, it appears some others have picked up on the idea of having their blog be a klip. I have to wonder about something. Why not just have as RSS or XML feed that everyone can use in any sort of news aggregator instead of a proprietary klip feed? Especially, why…

  • Geek gift.

The one actual geek gift I got for my birthday this year, much to my surprise, (because my parents usually steer clear of buying tech stuff) was a wireless/CF card for my Axim. They picked up the Ambicom WL1100C-CF. Installing it was pretty easy, it found my AP right away and after a little configuration,…

  1. I agree about the Rainforest Café. We have one at the Mall of America, and it’s a lot of waiting for not much. The most they have going for them is the atmosphere and that’s about it.

  2. This one had a surly manager who didn’t do anything but argue with me and eventually offer a dessert when faced with complaints about the quality of the food.
