Worst Web Service Ever

I’d forgotten about how gawd-awful the Microsft Windows File Associations web service is. I don’t remember ever getting a file with no program associated and clicked the “click here to get information on the programs needed to open this file” and found actual useful information, most times it’s just like this:

http://shell.windows.com/fileassoc/0409/xml/redir.asp?Ext=mdi

The sad thing in this particular case that I ran into today is that an MDI file is a Microsoft Document Image file. So Microsoft’s own web service can’t identify an Office 2003 file format. Nice.

  • After work, work..

Since I was already in the “web programming” mood when I got home, what with the ATOM feed on Angela’s blog, and since the DNS seems to have caught up with the server move on the child abuse site, I went ahead and upgraded the Movable Type installation over there, and added an atom feed…
