Pretty Painless Upgrade

That is the upgrade to Movable Type 3.3 over at my Child Abuse blog. I just extracted the downloaded zip file and uploaded the files to the site, pointed my browser to the usual login page and it prompted me to run an upgrade script and away I was. I’m looking forward to seeing more of what they’ve put into this version.

If you’re thinking of upgrading your own site, you might want to take a look at this post about what plugins are not compatible. It may affect your decision.

As always, while I think everything’s working, if you are over there and spot something that isn’t quite right, please let me know!

Update: Obviously, I spoke too soon. While all the database connections work and I can make changes to plugins, etc. I can’t post anything new! There is obviously a setting or file permission I’ve missed, but with the MT forums being off-line it’s not really easy to find a solution right now. In the meantime, anyone ever seen a “PreSave Failed” message?

Update #2: After a few failed attempts at finding a solution, I’ve rolled back to version 3.2 and done a database restore. Maybe after the forums are back I’ll research a solution and try again.

I did get to try and install StatCounteX yesterday, and then this morning found the version that adds password protection to the stats, which I was rather disappointed wasn’t there to begin with. Turns out it was a user uploaded version. There wasn’t much in the way of documentation, I guess that’s a hazard of…

I think maybe it’s time to change how the networks broadcast the Olympics. I know this year it seems as though the ratings aren’t what they used to be, and I think it has a whole lot to do with the fact that they are showing things well after they’ve already happened. Come on, this…

Well our event went pretty well, of course there were some screwups and setbacks but nothing that any of the attendees noticed, so that’s the mark of a successful event, right? All of our tech stuff has been accounted for and is still in working condition. Our intern got to actually have a computer this…

  • Cleveland rocks

I’ve been meaning to write about my time in Cleveland the past couple of days, but I just never seemed to find the time. On Thursday, had a great time spending the evening at the In The Trenches Cleveland Geek Dinner. It was late, very late, by the time I turned in for the night….

  • Must have coffee…

Yeah, I know, I made a typing error and breakfast in bed turned into breakfast in BAD. I wasn’t trying to insinuate that there was anything but breakfast, I just have this typing/spelling problem. Usually I rely on a good spell check, but, obviously, bad didn’t turn up as a bad spelling so I missed…

  • Pulling my hair out

I spent just about all of my work day troubleshooting issues with a new PC I just setup last week and it’s driving me crazy! This is a new OEM of Windows XP Pro, updated to SP2, running Office 2000. There were two issues, both of which involved spooling processes and timeouts. One was sending…
