Not all it’s cracked up to be.

You know, staying home and resting seemed like a good idea, until I noticed that the currently-vacant house next door is having some rather loud repairs done to it, and every recorded-message telemarketing firm in existence has decided to call our house this afternoon! Grr!

Hopefully Jason remembers to bring the extra wireless access point that he decided he didn’t need with him when he stops by for dinner tonight. It’ll be nice to be able to sit with my laptop down in the living room, or out on the front porch every once in awhile. Hopefully getting it integrated with our current Ethernet network won’t be a big deal. It shouldn’t be, should just be a matter of patching it into the existing router after I assign it a different IP address than the router is using, but you never know what adding hardware to a network is really going to do. Anyone done this before and have some thoughts on what I should look out for? I probably won’t have time to really deal with it until we get back from the in-laws this weekend, (where I have a small list of PC troubleshooting projects waiting for me as well) but I’m looking forward to it!

So XP SP2 has released to manufacturing. I’m going to be keeping a careful eye on reactions, issues, breakage, etc. for the next few days. Angela braved the Friday morning crowds to pick up a new toy for us, well for her more than anything, but we’ll both be enjoying it. According to Gizmodo, Netstumbler 0.4 is out with: “support of the Atheros, Atmel, and Intersil Prism2-based cards (the chipset many WiFi PCMCIA and CF cards use), which means there’s a better chance that NetStumbler or MiniStumbler will work with your hardware.” I could never get the previous version to work with my PCMCIA wireless card,…

  • It’s out..and it doesn’t really look good.

I’m no expert, but it seems that the Library of Congress final ruling for internet webcasting fees is only slightly better than the CARP ruling and will still send most internet broadcasters out of business. 🙁 Read more here. Might I suggest making a list of non-US webcasters so that we still have something to…

  • Things I learned

Random things I learned driving around the country last week: No matter where you are in the US, if you hit the scan button on the radio you will inevitably find these three things: 1. A “Real Classic Rock” station that plays far too much Zeppelin, Kansas and Skynyrd. 2. A just plain “classic rock”…
