Hurry up, and wait

I’m sitting here, waiting for 5 o’clock to roll around. Not so I can leave for the weekend, but so I can do a firmware upgrade on our server without having to cut it off while other people are working. I’m hoping the simple upgrade will restore the lost communication between the OS and the tape drive, and allow my tape drive to start working again! (The website says it should…) If that happens, then I can go home. If it doesn’t happen, well, I’m not exactly sure. I’ll probably still go home, but I’ll have to work on getting it replaced or something in the very, very near future.

*fingers crossed*

Update: Seems to be working now. I need to seriously push for funding to buy new tapes and replace all of these. Turns out it was having a bad tape in the drive that caused all the mess, once I upgraded, I could extract that and all is normal again.

Yes, back in the office. Vacation was great, I was able to visit a lot of neat places, learn a lot of history and take in some Deep South culture in just a week’s time or so. It was very nice to spend a week away from the news, away from most technology, outside of…

Last week I was informed that I’ll be getting a new piece of hardware. Thanks to Andy for pointing to the list of Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 issues. I haven’t installed it on anything yet, so this’ll be a nice resource to have. BTW, I’m not neglecting my job, we don’t actually have anything running 2000 in the whole office. It’s either XP or NT here. I do,…

  • Backup to Email

I saw this little utility on Lockergnome today and just had to try it out. It works pretty much as advertised. It automatically filled in the server details for Gmail and Yahoo, but not Hotmail. I could set-up any SMTP server manually though. I could easily right-click any file and use the “backup to email”…

Macy was kind enough to send me an email about a local event coming up here in Columbus on Oct. 2, Ohio Linux Fest. I might have to check that out. If you’re in the area, you might want to think about it too! Follow these topics: Linux, Uncategorized
