Ouch my head

Ever hear one of those really high pitched grinding noises? You know the kind that just screams “Metal rubbing against metal” and makes you want to run as far away as possible so the noise will stop making your brain vibrate? It’s really not good when a printer makes that sound, is it?

Of course this particular printer is an HP Laserjet 4L, and if you know anything about that printer you won’t be surprised to know that this thing is so old no one remembers buying it! I think the roller and some other moving parts have just had it. I think we’ll just point this user to one of the network printers for now and look at doing something different. I don’t see much of a point in trying to have a printer tech come and replace those moving parts, do you?

Been busy this morning with a bad Symantec Corporate Edition client. One of the PC’s had a problem getting the updated definitions file, such a bad problem that the AV just stopped working, throwing up “bad environment” errors at startup. Since we have wireless running around the house,…

I would have to agree with the conclusion: “Often, end users blame IT for network or computer problems, simply because they don’t know what goes on behind the scene and what causes problems. But sometimes, miscommunication on the…

I was asked to “consult” with our VP of Legislative Affairs this afternoon in reference to an anti-spam bill. She showed me the current state law, the proposed state law and the latest Federal CAN-Spam Act. All 3 have a different definition of what an “access provider” is. Being an access provider gives you the…

  • Now that’s journalism

I missed this over the weekend, but Dwight Silverman does a good job of breaking down the $100 PC available during the Thanksgiving Shopping spree. Surprise, surprise, the $100 for a PC really isn’t quite the deal it appears to be. It would be nice if retailers could go the route Dwight suggests, and just…
