Round up

I meant to write this last night, but I took Nyquil for a cold and spent the night in bed, so I never quite go around to it. 🙂

I did, finally, get the AV stuff installed on my machine as the server and the new desktop as client, pulling the definitions from my machine. It refused to see my machine as a legit AV server until I rebooted my machine, so keep that in mind if you’re ever doing one of these. I had to install directly on to the new machine, I apparently have something screwed up with the shares and permissions in XP, because when I tried to deploy from my machine to it, I got “access denied” errors. I’ll have to look a bit more into that before I roll out that machine to the user, but other than that, it’s ready to go. Then I’ll have to do the two laptops, so I do hope I find the permisions problem relatively soon and get it taken care of on all three. Once those are out the door, I should be able to deploy to all the other machines currently on the network, since I know those permissions are working ok.

But that’s for tomorrow (and probably Monday as well..). Today I am auditing that HTML class, so I may not have any ‘net access during the day.

I bit the bullet and installed SP2 over lunch today, since I had to work through my lunch hour anyway. (Long story) Everything went well, and nothing really came across as “broken” in any major way. I had to re-enable the Messenger Service, since I do use “net send” across our internal network quite often….

  • I knew it would happen

But I didn’t think it would happen this soon! Jonas dropped me an email early this morning asking why I didn’t cover Feedreader in the latest article. For the record, I did cover Feedreader in one of the followups to Part 1. It crashed repeatedly when I tried to run it and try it out,…

  • An update

Thanks to Andy for leaving me a comment yesterday about the latest bug fix of Syndirella that specifically fixed the first character only problem with Win 98. Perhaps later today I’ll grab that and get a better idea of how it stacks up. For right now I’m enjoying the extra day of my weekend away…

  • How I spent my weekend

I spent a whole lot of my weekend setting up my new laptop. After some headaches involved with trying to order a system online, that turned out to not be in stock, despite the fact that the site said it was, and I was charged for it, I cancelled that order and went down to…

  • On-line applications

I think this post pretty much sums out why using on-line apllications makes me nervous, even though I do use quite a few, but I take careful steps to make sure I have backups of everything that’s on-line and don’t share anything with an on-line application that I wouldn’t want you all to know about….

  • Upgrading

It seems that this attempt at upgrading to Movable Type version 3.32 over at the child abuse site seems to have worked. I posted an entry and a test comment without running into the Pre-Save error I was getting the last time I tried to upgrade. I think uploading the whole package instead of trying…
