My kingdom for some fresh air….

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before, but one of the big downsides to being in a small office like this is that, instead of having a server room, my office serves as home to both my powerful PC, and the main file server. In fact, there’s enough equipment in here that, combined with the fact that it’s an internal room with no windows, it’s generally a couple of degrees hotter in my office than it is elsewhere in the building. On top of that, in order to keep the server physically secure, my office is locked tight any time I’m not here. Over the course of any normal winter weekend, my office gets quite stuffy and is usually pretty uncomfortable for part of Monday morning. Today, after being locked tight since Friday evening, my office is unbearably stuffy! Even with the fan going it’s taken all morning to even get to a point where I can sit in here without getting sweaty. What I wouldn’t give to be able to pop open a window for a little while and let some fresh air in here!

Spent last night putting together a basic installation on Windows on the new laptop hard drive. I guess I should be glad that there’s a Microcenter close by and that they had some notebook hard drives in stock. Or I should be glad it went out while I was still home where I had access…

We’ve managed to make it back from our trip to the in-laws for my brother-in-law’s engagement party. It was fun, and it was nice to be able to do some things as far as helping with the party and doing some minor fixes to their PC while we were there. Angela’s parents do so much…

After Lockergnome announced their klip, it appears some others have picked up on the idea of having their blog be a klip. I have to wonder about something. Why not just have as RSS or XML feed that everyone can use in any sort of news aggregator instead of a proprietary klip feed? Especially, why…

Speaking of IT folks solving their own problems, Jason has an interesting problem he’s trying to solve with the public wifi hotspots where he works. I don’t have a solution, but I tend to think that if you’re creating public hotpots you don’t worry about neighbors getting access. Of course, maybe that’s just me. Follow…
