Pretty picture

Just have a few minutes down time before I head out to start loading and hauling stuff back from our Annual Meeting event, and wanted to tell you that not only did Angela get upgraded to Tiger, but my copy of VMware Workstation got upgraded to 5.0 as well. Pretty painless upgrade, and there are some features I like. I need to upgrade the RAM on that machine though in order to really start putting it to good use, like learning Windows 2003 Server.

Somewhere around midnight Friday if you could have peeked into our computer room you would have seen me floating between playing with Tiger on one machine, updating the Suse 9.1 install running in VMware on another, with the Windows laptop sitting between the two keeping my email coming and the music playing. Yes, it was a little slice of geek heaven. 🙂

Is there an issue with backward compatibility in MS Publisher? Everyone else in our office is using Office 2000, I’m using 2003. Today one of my users got a Publisher file that she couldn’t open at all, but which opened fine and dandy in Publisher 2003. I haven’t noticed any other Office programs that simply…

A few thoughts on what some others are saying.. Mike Chandler has some interesting stuff on advertising on blogs. I think some small advertising isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I go to a lot of blogs that have the little text ads and they don’t bother me at all. The real problem comes in when…

    Personal Tech update

Just an update on some things I’ve been doing. Angela already wrote about the Roomba, so I’ll leave that alone, other than to say, as a gadget type of guy, I’m fascinated by watching it work. (Of course, the whole point is that it works while you’re doing something else, so I need to break…

  • What’s possible?

Saw this posted on Scoble’s link blog this morning, a post from Ernie the Attorney, titled Productivity with Technology: Figuring out what’s possible is the hard part about how simply not knowing what you can do with your technology is an obstacle to increased productivity. I’ve seen many similar situations in my office where people,…

  • Why filters suck

I couldn’t get to my own child abuse site at the airport the other day. I’m sure they use some sort of filtering software, and I’m sure that it’s the same filtering software used by various schools and libraries. So, while it not being available from the airport is only a minor inconvenience, a kid…
