Long-time readers of this blog know that I’ve had my share of issues with hosting companies over the years. That’s why yesterday morning I got a somewhat pleasant surprise. My current provider was doing some network maintenance over night, and, apparently, ran into some problems with the upstream provider in the process.
Now, this was literally in the middle of the night, I wouldn’t have even noticed it more than likely, the network was down totally for all of 20 minutes, some of the web servers were down for close to 2 hours. Compared to some of my previous problems, this was very minor.
Unlike previous hosting providers though, they not only worked through the night to make sure everything got back as quickly as they could possibly get it back, they made sure I woke up to an email telling me exactly what had happened, why it happened and what they’ll be doing to make sure it doesn’t happen again. So if you had trouble getting her very early Saturday morning EST, that’s probably why.
I’m sure we’ve all had our shares of hours, if not days, of outages with nary a word of explanation from hosting providers. I know I have. It’s nice to have one now that goes out of it’s way to make sure I know what’s going on!
