Best Freeware Wiki

ByMike McBride June 20, 2008July 20, 2014 Reading Time: 1 minute

In the latest issue of Gizmo’s Tech Support Alert, there’s a bit more detail about the change in the “Best-ever Freeware” list that had been kept pretty up to date on the site. In keeping with all things Web 2.0, it’s now turned into a collaborative project and is now being published as a Wiki.

There’s a lot of really good stuff in there, and even more in the Freeware forums!

A geek could have a real good time checking out tools just by hanging around that site.

Maybe Apple Was Right All Along?
ByMike McBride June 27, 2012 Reading Time: 2 minutes

Granted, more data needs to be collected, but if early indications are correct from Microsoft’s study of over a million PC failures it would appear that Apple’s strategy of not letting anyone build their own box, tweak their own hardware, and limiting who can actually build the hardware, id definitely the reason why it is…

Contrary to their claims, it seems like the company is willing to let anyone use their facial recognition search tool, and they seem unable to keep their own data safe. That’s not a good look. Read the whole thing, and prepare to be shocked, shocked I tell you, that a company willing to grab millions,…

ByMike McBride August 17, 2024August 17, 2024 Reading Time: 2 minutes

It’s easy to walk away from a conference like this one with the impression that it’s just a matter of time. On the other hand, we must also acknowledge that the AI technology we see in front of us is just OK. It’s not world-changing, and it’s sometimes downright awful. As I’ve said before, will the huge investments ever pay off? We are all waiting to see. How long will we continue to talk about the future of AI instead of how it’s changed our world?

You know, when I was packing for our move a few months back, one of the things I noticed was that I have amassed an amazing number of thumb drives over the years, of all sizes. Once upon a time I did have a number of tools on thumb drives that helped me do trouble…

Linked – Everything you love will die, especially in tech
ByMike McBride May 13, 2016 Reading Time: 2 minutes

“A little over a year ago, Microsoft bought beloved calendar app Sunrise. For the past 14 months or so, things have been more or less business as usual… at least for customers. But this week, the other shoe finally dropped: August 31st will be the last day that Sunrise exists as a standalone app. Sure,…
