Linked – Police seek Amazon Echo data in murder case (updated)

This is an interesting story, because it demonstrates just how much information smart home devices may have, and how various government interests are going to try and access, and interpret, that data.
It also raises some interesting questions about how that data could be hacked by non-official parties. Are we really going to believe that smart device data is beyond reproach? Given how insecure these devices have proven to be, why would we assume data from any of them hasn’t been fabricated?
How soon before someone is convicted on the basis of smart device data where the data was actually falsified by someone hacking in to the device, or the cloud server where data is stored?
