Linked – Soon, iPhones will block texts while driving
“Soon, Apple will introduce a new iPhone feature that will do away with that annoying — and dangerous — urge to look at a text message while you’re driving.
The feature, called “Do Not Disturb While Driving,” will be part of Apple’s iOS 11, a new version of the operating software for Apple mobile devices.”
I’m not so much opposed to the feature, as I am opposed to the reality of it being needed. Do we really need to go this far just to stop texting while driving? Are we really this dumb?
On the other hand, making texts completely unavailable seems a tad unrealistic. When I was driving across the country a few months ago, I had Siri read texts to me because if there was an emergency, I needed to stop and make a phone call. I wouldn’t want to find that out hours later because my phone was in lock-down mode.
I would have turned that feature off in that situation. I suspect many people will. Unfortunately, many of those people would not use it hands-free the way I did.
