Zuckerberg Announces Changes Coming to Facebook Algorithm, Could It Make Pages Pointless?

If you haven’t seen the announcement:

Seems to me that trying to follow a blog, or other website by following their Facebook page just got about impossible. As a page owner, it also seems to me that spending much time trying to share my content on Facebook also just got about pointless. It’s clear, despite the assertion that people might spend less time on the platform, that Facebook will, in fact, simply be pushing away more things that point people off the platform, while trying to learn even more about us that can be sold to advertisers.

Though, how those advertisers feel about Facebook de-emphasizing links outside of Facebook might not be all that thrilled either.

I guess we’ll see, but I would highly recommend following blogs and websites that you truly care about using something other than Facebook.

    Google Is Not A Source

http://www.freetech4teachers.com/2014/12/how-not-to-cite-image.html You don’t credit a photographer by listing the search engine as the source of the image. Likewise, you don’t credit Google when you search for a news article, or a blog post. Follow the link and find the actual source. Don’t be lazy. This also goes for Flickr, Picasa, SmugMug, Reddit, etc. Someone posted…

  • LinkedIn Cringe and Getting More of What You Measure

It can be very easy to lose sight of this on Social Media but it can also be easy to lose sight of this in the workplace or in our own careers as well. When we reward certain measurements people respond by doing more of that thing. This makes sense if your goal is to simply attract more attention to yourself. For social media maybe that is your goal. If you are representing a brand on social media, yeah that is probably what you want. However, as an individual, I think you have to ask yourself if getting more eyeballs this way causes you to actually undermine your own goals.

    How I Spent My Sunday

Actually, I should title this how I spent late Saturday night, into Sunday morning, and then most of my Sunday. I started out trying to upgrade Movable Type on the Child Abuse site. It’s now running WordPress. Yes, the upgrade went that poorly. Having been through a few upgrades that didn’t go well with movable…

  • Social Network of Choice

I was out of town recently, spending a long weekend in Virginia due to my grandmother’s 90th birthday party. Usually, when I’m out of town, and especially when I’m spending time with family, I don’t spend much time on my laptop. This particular trip, I didn’t spend any time at all on my laptop, preferring…

Earlier this month, this blogged passed it’s 7th year of existence. The oldest entry on the site is from Oct. 8, 2001. I’ve never been one to keep track of the date and consider it impressive how long I’ve been doing this, so I actually missed it. I also almost missed that yesterday’s entry was…
