Linked – Microsoft Reduces Office’s Functionality to Push You Towards Copilot
Hey, look, Microsoft isn’t just putting Copilot everywhere and forcing personal users to opt in and pay more for it; they’re also turning off features that Copilot can perform instead for anyone who opts out, like Smart Lookup.
This is all part of the “Copilot everywhere” strategy that we are all part of, whether we want it or not. 😉
Despite oddly guiding you towards Bing for your search needs, the real writing on the wall here is that Smart Lookup is no longer necessary when there’s Copilot.
This rollout of Copilot has been a mess. This week, I pushed out an issue of the M365 newsletter outside of the regular schedule to discuss it. Rebranding everything in Office to be named Copilot was not a good idea. It has caused more confusion than I thought it would, and I thought it would create a lot. This, for someone charged with keeping up with these changes and being able to answer questions about them for our users, is pretty exhausting.
I’m sure I’m not the only one feeling this way about M365 and AI news. (Don’t even get me started on Deepseek news!)
