Hawking Router

I’ve been messing around a bit with the Hawking PN9245F router that I’ve got the home network and cable modem running through. I put it through some firewall tests and port scans, and it’s got me running in full stealth mode for the moment. Gotta’ love that!

It wasn’t even all that difficult to setup either. The one complaint I do have, and as an IT professional, it’s not something I really thought about, but it doesn’t do a very good job of explaining threats and the settings involved. It also doesn’t come with the firewall enabled by default, which seems odd. But the default settings for the firewall are very effective. They just don’t do a very good job of explaining, for example, why Port 139 is so important to have blocked, and under what circumstances you might want it open. Guess you’d just have to use our best friend, Google to figure out stuff like that out. 🙂 Or you could always pick up a book on network security at Amazon.com .
