Bad, dirty software…

New Kazaa stealing referral links:

“The newest version of Kazaa contains code which will rewrite URLs to sites like Amazon.com which allows affiliates to earn commission from sales they refer to Amazon. If you were to have this software installed and click through one of Lockergnome’s book links to Amazon, Kazaa would end up getting credit for any sales that may have resulted from your visit to the site.”

Somehow this doesn’t surprise me at all about Kazaa, it’s already spying on you, and who knows what else, why shouldn’t it steal commisions from small site owners too? I hope anyone trying to help out this site by using the Amazon links is smart enough to not be fooled into giving the $$ to Kazaa instead. I think I’d be pretty peeved if that happened. While we were out running around last night, one of the stops we made was to browse around at Half-Price Books. (One of my favorite places!) As I was walking past the software section I noticed a little sign telling customers that they would be glad to buy and resell various games or children’s software…

I started seeing this yesterday, and we’re usually a couple of days behind on new outbreaks, simply by virtue of being small and not very cutting edge. By the end of yesterday 20 of them had been intercepted by Postini, more than that have been today. That’s a pretty big outbreak for our network. That…

I’m still pondering how to make some sort of organization come out of the blogroll. I’m still leaning toward blogs that deal with technology mostly, and blogs that deal with other topics mostly. (Perhaps a News/Current Events category and a Everyday Life category?) I’m filling in more blogs as we speak that fit into all…

So XP SP2 has released to manufacturing. I’m going to be keeping a careful eye on reactions, issues, breakage, etc. for the next few days. Hopefully after I’ve had a few days to see what everyone else is experiencing with this, I’ll go get it myself and start testing on our network. Luckily there are…

  • This is sooo getting forwarded!

As some of you know, if you’ve been paying attention, I’ve been trying, albeit unsuccessfully, to bring the RSS movement to the place I work. Mostly it’s been out of a fear that the emails we send our members are increasingly not being delivered. Well now, as Jenny pointed out, the Public Utilities Commission of…

Shannon chided me the other day in my own comments when I talked about the tech toys I brought on vacation, suggesting that I was missing the point of a vacation! Not at all Shannon. One, as you can tell, I’m not feeling the need to reply in a timely manner at all. 🙂 Two,…
