A sad day…

Maybe not for you, but it is for me. One of my favorite bands of all time is calling it quits. Midnight Oil lead singer Peter Garrett has decided to call it a career and “take up challenges outside of music”.

Ironically enough for a band that struggled to get the recognition they deserve outside of Australia, I found this through Daypop, so I guess lots of people are blogging about it.

In retrospect I’m especially glad I went this spring to see them play down in Cincinnati. I thought it might possibly be the last opportunity I would get to see them because they don’t tour the US very often, but I was hoping not. I guess there’s nothing to do but grab all my MO cd’s and have myself a listen for old time’s sakes! Thanks for the memories guys!

    Random Podcamp Ohio Thoughts

Those of you who follow me on Twitter could probably guess that yesterday was the first Podcamp Ohio “Unconference”. I haven’t actually been to a podcamp before, but I’ve certainly heard plenty about them from following tech folks online, so I was looking forward to the chance to attend one locally. At first, I think…

  • Interesting

From Scripting News: This is so beautiful and symmetric. An ISP is banning the RIAA from its network. Now, let’s all of us think of ways we can erase the RIAA from our lives. This could get interesting. Indeed it will be interesting to watch this unfold. Surely the RIAA, once given power to monitor…

  • Intranet Step 2

I didn’t get to post about it yesterday, but I did take step two into creating a $0 budget intranet, getting Uniform Server up and running on the old Windows Me machine. It’s a pretty straight-forward process, the only problem I ran into is a known bug in version 3.2 when running on older Windows…

  • Problems, problems

What’s going on today, all of our connections to the internet have been rather flaky, both through the cable modem and dial-up with a different ISP? Some sites I can’t get to at all, others are SLOW, and others I can access some parts one time, other parts another time. Maybe the strong winds outside…

  • Reruns rock!

I never thought I’d actually have reason to think that reruns rock, but yesterday Call for Help, the TechTV show, aired a rerun of the show where they did a story on Evan Williams from Blogger. This is also the show that came with a follow up story about Chris Pirillo’s favorite blogs, in which…

  • Backup to Email

I saw this little utility on Lockergnome today and just had to try it out. It works pretty much as advertised. It automatically filled in the server details for Gmail and Yahoo, but not Hotmail. I could set-up any SMTP server manually though. I could easily right-click any file and use the “backup to email”…
