Tired, cranky and ready to go home

Yeah it’s been that kind of day, it’s been that kind of week here in the office, as a matter of fact.

Hell, who am I kidding? It’s been that kind of YEAR!!!

I’ve spent most of this week correcting other people’s mistakes. Mistakes that mostly involve an inability to follow directions. This is the part of IT that they don’t tell you about in the certification schools, the part where you have to deal with people. People who don’t like computers, and don’t like you because you know more than they do about them. People who don’t take anything you say seriously, and therefore feel no need to follow your directions. They make it up as they go along, and then expect you to fix it when they screw it up.

And you will, because you care more about getting it right than you do about making other people look bad, even though they’ll sell you out in a heartbeat if you do something wrong.

Yeah I’m not real happy with the human race right now, can you tell? 🙂

Couple of interesting things I saw over at Chris’ Blog this morning that I think need to be shared. First, the good folks at Lockergnome have started up FileofTheDay.com. That might be something to keep handy when you’re in the mood for some good freeware or shareware. Secondly, the Barenaked Ladies have a blog. If…

Been such a busy morning that I just looked up and was amazed that it’s almost lunch time. Cool! I like those kinds of days! Of course, I have to spend my lunch bringing my new glasses back because the lens popped out yesterday, but oh well, it’ll be nice to get out of the…

  • New ESBN features

I was off-line most of the weekend, celebrating Angela’s birthday with both of our families, so I hadn’t noticed until I grabbed the copy/paste code for that last entry that ESBN.org had added some features. Obviously the “rate this content” is new, and given the close race between thumbs up and thumbs down my posts…

  • Who invented these things?

So, with the new schedule I’m getting home later, leaving me less time to listen to podcasts. I’m not able to listen to podcasts on my laptop while working on my desktop anymore either, so, again, less time to listen to podcasts. I’m trying to move the podcasts to my MP3 player to listen to…

  • Little Projects

I’ve been keeping busy with some little projects, things like adding the Friends in Tech logo to the top of the page, to officially “flag” myself as a member of that group as well as thinking about ways to leverage the group resources there to benefit the readers here and visa versa, or adding Google…

As fate would have it, Erik is in town this week as part of his consulting gig, working with a client located just outside of Columbus. We arranged to meet up for dinner last night, me and my lovely wife, Erik and his lovely coworker, Dave. 😉 After some initial confusion over directions, (no really…
