Tired, cranky and ready to go home

Yeah it’s been that kind of day, it’s been that kind of week here in the office, as a matter of fact.

Hell, who am I kidding? It’s been that kind of YEAR!!!

I’ve spent most of this week correcting other people’s mistakes. Mistakes that mostly involve an inability to follow directions. This is the part of IT that they don’t tell you about in the certification schools, the part where you have to deal with people. People who don’t like computers, and don’t like you because you know more than they do about them. People who don’t take anything you say seriously, and therefore feel no need to follow your directions. They make it up as they go along, and then expect you to fix it when they screw it up.

And you will, because you care more about getting it right than you do about making other people look bad, even though they’ll sell you out in a heartbeat if you do something wrong.

Yeah I’m not real happy with the human race right now, can you tell? 🙂

I missed this over the weekend, but Dwight Silverman does a good job of breaking down the $100 PC available during the Thanksgiving Shopping spree. Surprise, surprise, the $100 for a PC really isn’t quite the deal it appears to be. It would be nice if retailers could go the route Dwight suggests, and just…

Andy, not to be confused with Andrew from the last post, got the comments within the RSS item to work in Blogger. I’m going to have to take a look at what he’s done compared to what I tried and see what I was doing wrong. Later: Andy is not using BloggerPro to generate his…

  • Busy..

Been busy this morning with a bad Symantec Corporate Edition client. One of the PC’s had a problem getting the updated definitions file, such a bad problem that the AV just stopped working, throwing up “bad environment” errors at startup. Since the AV wouldn’t run, it couldn’t communicate with the server it’s supposed to be…

    Blasphemy

Turns out the speed didn’t stay quite that high so the download will finish sometime this evening. No biggie, since the only CD-R’s I have in the office are 650MB anyway. I would have had to wait until I go home and grab a 700MB and burned tomorrow if it had finished by 5PM. 🙂…

  • Summer plans

It looks like, unless something drastically changes over the next three weeks, that the drive to Gnomedex this year will be part of a much larger, and longer, vacation plan. Last year, of course, I drove from Des Moines up to Fargo, ND to visit a friend, and then across to Montana and down into…
