Something to think about..

Kevin is working on a year-end podcast. He has an assignment:

Since this will be my last podcast before Christmas, I’m giving you all an assignment for a End of Year Podcast. Either send in audio feedback, ..OR.. call the listener line (206-888-4488), ..OR.. call the Skype line (callto://inthetrenches), and leave your input regarding 1) What made 2004 significant to you within the IT World, and 2) What are you looking forward to in 2005? I’ll patch together all of the feedback items and make a podcast out of it for the end of the year.

I’m planning on maybe thinking about this a little bit, but my initial thoughts for 2004 definitely include podcasting, especially what Kevin does with the Tech Chats, as an opportunity to network and exchange ideas with peers on a whole new level, regardless of location. That has been quite exciting, at least for me… 🙂

Other significant things, in terms of having been a big event and requiring my attention as an IT guy this year, have been the release of Windows XP SP2, the growth of spyware, complying with the CAN-Spam Act, the official release of FireFox, and probably a few others I’m forgetting right now.

Anyway, it’s Christmas Eve, hope all of you who celebrate the day have a wonderful and safe one, and hope you all get good geeky gifts to tell us all about after the holidays are over. 🙂

As you can see from Angela’s post about our trip to the Newport Aquarium, little Dylan seemed to have the best time when she gave him her digital camera and let him wonder around taking pictures. They’re not too shabby for a 3 year old. Anyway, she and I are thinking of trying to find…

  • Blocking popups

I installed the new Google Toolbar yesterday on my work machine. I have made a somewhat half-hearted attempt to use IE a bit more than usual, but not a whole lot more since then, just to see how many popups it blocks. As of 1:30 this afternoon the count is 42. So I wonder, exactly…

For those of you following along in the comments, there probably is something to the fact that Angela and I had our first date on April Fool’s Day. It says that we have a lot of fun together and have a sense of humor about life. Or something like that… Follow these topics: Uncategorized

  • Who are these people?

From a Register article: “Symantec has turned off this auto-responder feature by default for the last two years but systems admins insist on turning it back on, according to Chris Miller, a Symantec mail security product manager.” Well I guess I can quit blaming Symantec for all those “virus bounce” messages and start blaming email…

Sept. 22, 2001: Angela and I were married in a small town in Tennessee. On this day I know of no higher compliment to my wife than to acknowledge that I am a better man for having been married to her these last 5 years, and I have no doubt that I will continue to grow and improve so long…

  • Spyware Info

Not that the newsletter isn’t always useful, but I just read the latest Spyware Info and I highly recommend it. It’s got a little bit of everything, including bits about RFID tags, fake spyware tools, SBC’s appalling behavior in California, and a good argument for privacy rights in general. Good stuff.. Update: There’s been an…
