Windows Live Writer

Ed Bott loves it. I read about it and downloaded it. I opened it, I configured it to login to this blog. I saw some very interesting things. I saw some definite promise. Unfortunately, I also saw a tool that needs some more work before I can depend on it full time. Seems like they’ve left plenty of room for improvements through plugins with the SDK, but when you go to all the trouble to do WYSIWYG editing, photo and map publishing, and spell checking couldn’t you just go ahead and add a tagging platform or access the Flickr API? Maybe once some folks get ahold of the SDK and develop these sorts of plugins, I’ll be more likely to use it.

Linked – Who’s watching? Face recognition means goodbye to hiding in crowds

The technology is getting better. Just this week I downloaded Facebook’s Moments app to take a look at it and sure enough, it pretty much nailed every match of a person in a photo on my phone with their Facebook profile. I don’t think we are going to stop businesses and government agencies from using…

    Not Feeling the Buzz

Like most of you, my gmail account was integrated into Google’s new “Buzz” social networking tool, and unlike many in the blogosphere, I decided to give it a little while before commenting on it. (BTW did you know you can subscribe to this blog by email as well?) Anyway, if you’re interested in discussing Office…

A review of those Microtel/Lindows boxes you can get from Walmart. I think this article gets it right on Linux as a home OS. Until there’s a version of Linux that works “out of the box” it’s not a serious threat to Windows on the consumer front. As of right now, if you want to…

  • Didn’t I see this in a movie?

I swear my work life gets more like Office Space everyday. We’re planning to introduce, by the first of the year, a new policy which will govern the proper way for the organization to recognize staff birthdays, weddings, child births, family deaths, etc. Apparently, someone has been discussing and working on this policy since the…

  • Whew!

I just spent the most stress-filled lunch hour I’ve ever had, after checking in with my bank balances and finding that our hotel reservation for this weekend in Chicago had been canceled and credited back to my credit card! I used Hotels.com to make the reservation. I had used them when we went to New…
