Linked – Dropbox update brings iMessage app, PDF signing, Today widget

ByMike McBride October 13, 2016October 12, 2016 Reading Time: 1 minute

Dropbox today rolled out a big update for its iOS app, adding a number of nice new features. In addition to an iMessage app for iOS 10, the release also brings the ability to sign PDF documents and a handy Today screen widget.

These are pretty nice updates, especially having the ability to sign PDF documents right on your iOS device. I’ve never had a reason to share something in Dropbox through the iMessage app, but I know other people might find that pretty useful too.

ByMike McBride August 13, 2018August 13, 2018 Reading Time: 1 minute

I don’t find either one of these things surprising, at all. “The results are largely what you’d expect, and what the authors predicted: People who felt simply the expectation of having to answer work emails during non-work hours were more anxious, and reported more relationship stress and poorer health. As the team writes, the “omnipresent…

Yet again we see otherwise smart people doing something silly when it comes to computer security. There’s a lot of detail in the article below, but this quote is definitely something everyone should keep in mind: “There is a massive, massive gulf of understanding between otherwise competent professionals and the most basic tenets of computer…

I Feel Validated by GMail’s Priority Inbox
ByMike McBride August 31, 2010 Reading Time: 1 minute

Seems like just a few days ago that I was in front of a room, in Vegas, telling people about the importance of using rules, and any other sort of filtering mechanism, to get stuff out of your inbox so that the high-priority items are more easily located. Imagine my surprise when I saw that…

This may not be bad for a lot of people, not just lawyers. “Hinshaw & Culbertson partner Steven Puiszis, the firm’s general counsel for privacy, security and compliance, described the precautions taken by lawyers at many large law firms. They typically require lawyers to take “burner” laptops and phones with them that don’t contain client…

Linked: Mental health widely seen as a barrier to career progression
ByMike McBride October 12, 2020October 12, 2020 Reading Time: 2 minutes

I could see this being true, because we know there is a lot of stigma surrounding mental health issues in the workplace:

“New research from recruitment agency Hays claims that nearly a quarter (24 percent) of those who have or have experienced a mental health condition feel they do not have equal access to the same career progression opportunities as other colleagues. Similarly, 12 percent of those who have had or experienced mental ill health said they felt this had led to their chances of being selected for a job being lowered.”

Personal and Professional Unavoidably Intersecting?
ByMike McBride March 16, 2009 Reading Time: 3 minutes

That’s what Michelle Golden suggested last week, and I tend to agree. I see this most plainly trying to document the time I spend in the office. I’m an hourly employee, technically I’m supposed to do work in the office, and then stop. Except, in the era of constant connectivity, how am I really supposed…
